Arriving in Copenhagen

Venue location

The location for this year’s Dalux Summit is the same as 2023, allowing us to provide both the quantity and variety of content to really excite and inspire those attending the event!

There will be an in-person briefing for all the speakers just before the Dalux Roadmap session on the 5th of November, see below for details.

Transportation

Metro

If you want to travel from the airport via Metro, it’s a simple journey. The metro departs every 10 minutes from the airport to Frederiksberg Metro Station. The venue and recommended hotel are located just 2 minutes' walk from the metro station.

Taxi

The taxi rank is situated outside Terminals 1 and 3. It will take around 20-30 minutes to get to the city center by taxi, and will cost around 250-350 DKK, depending on traffic.

Parking

Scandic Falkoner operates a parking garage next to the hotel and costs 210 DKK per day. However, it is not possible to reserve a parking spot beforehand.

Accommodation

We recommend booking either the Scandic Falkoneror Scandic Kødbyen  hotel. The Scandic Falkoner is part of the event venue, whilst Scandic Kødbyen is around 15 minutes by public transport. You can get a discount on your booking by using the following code:

Speaker Video

First, what is a speaker video

You may have seen speaker videos on social media for a local Dalux User Day that introduce attendees to who will be speaking at the event, and what they will be speaking about. It’s a great way to promote your session and get people excited for what you will be talking about! An example of this from Dalux Summit 2023 can be found below.

It’s a 30-second long “selfie”-style video where you introduce yourself, your job title, the company you work for, and give a brief description of your presentation all in English. The shorter the video, the better!

These videos are entirely optional, but if you would like to, please record one and sent it through to your point of contact!

Presentation tips

Consider the audience

The audience at the Dalux Summit will predominantly be users of Dalux.

  • There will be a mix of knowledge about Dalux in the audience; from basic to very advanced
  • Try to appeal to both basic and advanced users in your presentation
  • Where possible, hook the audienceinto yourpresentation. This could be done by:
    • Using a controversial title, or presenting about well-known topic
    • Presenting about a project which is well-known in your region that people are curious about
  1.

The biggest thing to remember is: the audience want to know how you got value from using and implementing Dalux. If you can clearly show where you got value, the audience will really enjoy your presentation!

Think of the “washroom conversation” – Could your presentation be described to someone who didn’t see it within 2-3 minutes, and still cover the main points? To achieve this, keep in mind who the audience is, why you are standing in front of them and what key points they should take with them after your presentation.

Writing a presentation - Slide content tips

  • Logos - build up logical arguments (because we did this, the outcome was that)
  • Pathos - make the audience feel something (relate to the audience about their likely struggles)
  • Ethos– why the audience should trust you (who you are, why you are presenting, what your experience is, why people should listen to what you say)
  • Feel free to get technical - Use analogies when it gets hyper-technical (For example, our digital journey is like climbing Mt. Everest, and we are currently at Base Camp)
  • Make the outcome(s) clear - Clearly state the take-away for the audience, and where you got the most value.

Writing a presentation - Slide layout tips

Keep the slides simple

  • Make sure the slides are simple and easy to follow

Use visual media where possible – A  picture paints a 1000 words!

  • If you have a lot of visuals on a slide, use animations to avoid overloading the audience

Avoid walls of text

  • If you have to have a lot of text (like a quote) use bold or italic text to highlight what the focus is in the text

As a general rule, work to 1 minute of talking per slide

  • For a 20-minute presentation you should have 20-30 slides
  • For a 30-minute presentation you should have 30-45 slides

Keep your company introduction short – enough to give context of who you are, what you do, and who you work for

Tips & tricks for handling the nerves

Everyone gets nervous before a presentation – that’s natural!

It doesn’t matter if you’ve done one presentation or a 100, the presenter will always be somewhat nervous! Something to always try to remember, the audience will always want the presenter to do well on stage. They are coming to see your presentation because they are truly interested in hearing how you’re getting value.

Everyone makes mistakes – that’s natural too!

Remember, only you will know  that you’ve made a mistake during the presentation, and this will not affect the audience’s experience. It’s natural to forget a talking point, or use a different word or phrase during your presentation, but the audience won’t notice your presentation is different on stage to the one you practiced!

Take three deep breaths when you first get on stage and see the audience to help calm the nerves. Some people even acknowledge their nerves to the audience, and this can help.

Practice pausing – when nervous, people generally speak quickly, so practice slowing down or taking a small break in between sentences.

  • Speaking quickly is most common at the beginning of a presentation, so remember to introduce yourself and then breathe!
  • Remember that a pause may feel an eternity on stage but is actually quite short.

Avoid a word-for-word script to follow.

  • Use keywords and “prompts” for each slide,
  • This gives you more freedom on stage and helps prevent you “losing track” of where you are in the presentation

If you can, practice with an audience

  • In front of colleagues or family and friends
  • If that isn’t an option, you can always practice in front of the mirror at home!

Keep an eye on the clock: When practicing, make sure your presentation is no longer than your allotted time

  • There will be a stage host in every room who will give you a 5 minute, 3 minute, and 1 minute warning to help you keep track of the time.
Embrace your inner superhero!

Body language and appearance can trick both your own brain and the audience to see you as more confident. So, before you start speaking, take a deep breath, stand straight, find a comfortable position and smile at the audience - you've got this!

Losing track of where you are in your presentation?

It happens to everyone! But don't worry, you will be back on track in a moment. Just smile, look at your notes, take a deep breath or a sip of water and continue on. As the famous poster says, "Keep Calm and Carry On!"

Technical issues?

Don’t worry, we got you covered! We will check each presentation in the break before to make sure it's all working, and we will have people available to help when needed!

And lastly, enjoy your time onstage and have fun
– You’ll remember this for years to come!
